Magnitude 6.2 – Near the east coast of Honshu, Japan
A very strong 6.2 magnitude aftershock struck at 17:00 (05:00 PM) local Japanese Time approx. 70 km out of the Honshu coast. A maximum moderate shaking was experienced, but tens of millions of people have felt this aftershock and are once again reminded at the destructive March earthquake and tsunami.
USGS recorded magnitude 6.2 earthquake 74 km (45 miles) E of Mito, 92 km (57 miles) SSE of Iwaki, 131 km (81 miles) ESE of Utsunomiya and 155 km (96 miles) ENE of Tokyo, Japan (36.289°N, 141.308°E) at depth of 10 km (6.2 miles).
JMA also has reported a magnitude of 6.2 at a shallow depth of 10 km. The earthquake occurred far enough out of the Japanese coast to be harmless. There is NO tsunami warning or advisory in place for this earthquake
This is an aftershock of the massive destructive earthquake earlier this year.
