Strong magnitude 7.3  earthquake hit Papua New Guinea today at 05:04:56 UTC and was located 89 km (55 miles) SSW of Lae, New Guinea, 123 km (76 miles) ENE of Kerema, New Guinea and 221 km (137 miles) NNW of Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea (7.518°S, 146.767°E). USGS recorded magnitude 7.1 with epicenter depth of 121.2 km (75.3 miles). EMSC recorded magnitude 7.3 with depth of 126 km.

The main problem in this kind of earthquakes can be landslides. Rain forest and hills, mountains can generate a lot of landslides.

There were no reports of injured and there was no tsunami alert issued.
