The dramatic science behind the Sun’s powerful coronal mass ejections and their interactions with the Earth’s magnetosphere and climate is now can be viewed now in this newly released video from NASA. In this animation, you can watch as the particles from the solar wind are redirected around the Earth, keeping us safe – and hydrated. This portion showcases the interaction between the Sun’s solar wind and the Earth’s ocean currents. What’s really amazing about this video is that the underlying data visualizations are based on real satellite observations. The swirling ocean currents were created from real ocean current data. This is actually an excerpt from Dynamic Earth: Exploring Earth’s Climate Engine  which is playing at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. The video was recently chosen as a “select entry” for the 2012 SIGGRAPH conference, held in Los Angeles on Aug. 5 to 9, 2012.

Dynamic Earth explores the inner workings of Earth's climate system. With visualizations based on satellite monitoring data and advanced supercomputer simulations, this cutting-edge production follows a trail of energy that flows from the Sun into the interlocking systems that shape our climate: the atmosphere, oceans, and the biosphere. Audiences will ride along on swirling ocean and wind currents, dive into the heart of a monster hurricane, come face-to-face with sharks and gigantic whales, and fly into roiling volcanoes.

Dynamic Earth explores the relationship of Earth and the Sun. The Earth is close enough to the Sun to bask in its warmth, thanks to a series of natural defenses, including its magnetic field. Dynamic Earth is the result of a two-year long collaboration between Spitz Creative Media, the Advanced Visualization Lab at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois, NASA's Scientific Visualization Studio, and Thomas Lucas Productions, Inc. Produced in association with the Denver Museum of Nature & Science and NASA Earth Science. Narrated by Academy-Award nominated actor Liam Neeson.

this video is of course very interesting regarding a new concrete model of the gulf stream, but does not at all provide any conclusions how CMEs effect on the climate. The old school books say, the geomagnetic field rejects and deflects the most PARTICLES OF SOLAR WIND. Meanwhile, these scholars have realized that the mostn of the intensive energy esp SOLAR PLASMA in CMEs contain is not REJECED OR REFLECTED. The task of NASA resp. NOAA SPPC is only to protect satellite environment ( also military ones) and some other highly sensible technical installations The little bit ice fields or clouds may really REFLECT is just taken to distract form the fact, that human care and rescue becomes just impossible, if natural catastrophies come in large numbers. All these pragmatist would say: To know about at which time, any earthquake or volcano eruption would happen may help a bit ( and cause much panic) but not prevent the quake form happening.Not to know about this can even cause more panic as recent cases show, when volcanoes suddenly made loud noises or other signs of an upcoming eruption

@watchers: thanks for posting my comments. To this video I would have some more remarks: As said before, this video provides a very nice and new revolutionary animation of the Gulf stream ( with an origin in the Gulf of Mexico- something BP always denied after the Deepwater Horizon disaster). something a have never seen before. But there is nothing REAL about relation between CMEs and climatical issues. The part, in which NASA claims the existence of sulforacid in the higher Venus atmosphere would be related to CME impacts seems to me ( quote;: Bullsh**) Venus is for me just mysterious and therefore anytime good for any theory. That Venus rotates (spins) against the direction of the "solar motor" resp as the only planet into opposite "retrograde" direction was in all serious publications explained as any cosmic accident in which Venus just was turned upside down with its rotations axis tilting over its equtarorial/ orbital plane . NASA did not caim that was caused by a CME event Venus already widely slow fown brotation however will come to a stillstand one day. MUCH MORE INTERSTING SGOULD BE; that Venus has a complete atmosphere ( CO2, N2, NItrate- and sulforacid ), with the difference that all gases are oxidated, just like after a global fire would have destroyed Venus one day., resp identical with the doom scenario after a global nuclear war. So- if there was not any known civliisation there doing that, NASA concludes /( resp justb had the idea) that all that happened by strong CMEs. Okay- the fact that there is no/ more volcanism on Venus, does speak against the theory of Venus being " a planet in its primary state", but for sure for the idea that there must have been something made out of Carbon ( such as Plantes animals and other creatures) on venus surface. Why should NASA otherwise have the idea that a solar CME has burned down all on venus? I dont really buy that, but its an allowed theory as long as there is no real answer. Most of nowadays scientist are influenced and corrupted by politics and economy. so the fact that 98 % of Venus atmosphere consist out of CO2 was used by the Co2 apologets ( mainly the mineral oil and energy industries) to fearmonger the CO2 hybe into consequences, which are just phantasy. There is an entire goupr of scientists ( the great global warming swindle) who all jsut say: Aas more CO2 in nthe atmosphere as more that planet goes into a state of a socalled CO2 winter. These fearmongers reps their scientific agents claim, that the Earth will end up just like Venus if the "people" ( who does it?) should continue to burn Carbon.(incl breathing?) Allthough only 7 % of the sunlight that reaches Earth`s ground reaches the Venus surface, this surface is almost 500° C hot. another riddle about or "sister planet?" These Antiscientists however just have to claim "its the greenhouse effect"in its worst form. NASA the greatest international scientific institution, should be careful to make not ( more)n such propaganda for the " NEOCON " New American century" not to end up regarded" as untrustworthy " with these lies . I am from Germany where sciences was and is no again misused by pollitics and economy and I just know. This is the END OF SCIENCE ( scientific codex)
