Soulik weakened into tropical storm after landfall in east China

Typhoon Soulik made its second landfall in southeast China. Soulik moved further inland to Jiangxi Province after landfall in southeast China's Fujian Province, bringing downpours and strong gales to the region. The National Meteorological Center (NMC) said on July 14, 2013 the typhoon has gradually weakened after moving inland, but heavy rain and strong winds will continue to pummel some parts of China. Precipitation as high as 200 mm within five hours were recorded in Jiangxi Province.

According to latest report by Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), Tropical Storm Soulik was located approximately 87 nm west- northwestward of Taipei, Taiwan. The system is moving westward at 10 knots. Maximum sustained winds are 60 knots (111 km/h) with gusts up to 75 knots (139 km/h).

Upper level analysis indicates a marginally favorable environment with Soulik tracking away from an upper level ridge to the east. Vertical wind shear is currently moderate to unfavorable (20-30 knots). Soulik is expected to begin a northwestward turn and dissipate as a significant tropical cyclone over land in the next 36 hours.

Typhoon Soulik has left two dead, one missing and 104 others injured since it hit Taiwan early on July 13, 2013.
