Major winter storm affecting Southeast US, moving up the Eastern Seaboard
A major winter storm is affecting parts of the Southeast U.S. with dangerous ice and snow and is expected to intensify Wednesday evening, February 12, as it moves up the Eastern Seaboard, affecting locations across the mid-Atlantic and Northeast. More than 2.5 cm (1 inch) of ice accumulation is possible from central Georgia into South Carolina through Thursday morning.
According to NOAA NWS, freezing rain is spreading into the Carolinas, significant snow accumulations is expected in the interior mid-Atlantic states tonight. Ice storm warnings and freezing rain advisories are in effect across much of central Georgia.

The low pressure system is expected to intensify and will begin to move northeastward up the Eastern Seaboard in the next couple of days.
