This short time-lapse was captured on February 19, 2014. At approximately 02:00 UTC an unexpected CME (Coronal Mass Ejection) impacted our planet's magnetosphere. The aurora display was fairly active peaking at G2 storm levels.

A large portion of the display took place past the Zenith above the southern horizon. The aurora was actually bright enough to be seen in conjunction with the lunar phase of the moon at 78%.

As some light cloud began to move in from the west I recorded the formation of the following Lunar Halo.

Conditions: Ambient temperatures dipped to -12 C with a 10 km/h wind from the west.

Location: 240 km North West of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
