Northern Afghanistan flash floods death toll rises
Thousands od homes have been flooded in four provinces of northern Afghanistan after three days of heavy rain that started on April 24, 2014. Initial reports International Office for Migration (IOM) obtained from provincial authorities indicated that 95 people have lost their lives but latest reports mention death toll reached 123 people.
The flooding also resulted in the destruction of public facilities, roads, and thousands of hectares of agricultural land and gardens.
The worst affected area is the province of Jawzjan, where 80 people are believed to have died and around 6 000 displaced after their homes were damaged or destroyed.

Drinking water is now in short supply and is a priority for the government and aid agencies providing assistance in the affected areas.
More than 2 200 families have been displaced and over 5 500 affected.
