Severe storm swept through northern Netrokona, Bangladesh

Government officials said a severe storm that swept through parts of Bangladesh on Sunday, April 28th, destroyed 1 000 homes and left 16 people dead. The storm swept through scores of villages, uprooting trees and electricity poles.

The worst hit was district of Netrokona where side wall collapsed and killed nine people, six people died in Sunamaganj. In Naogaon, one person died after being struck by lightning.

Government administrator Abul Kalam Azad said about 1 000 homes mostly made of mud and tin were flattened​.

The storm also derailed a train at Tangail district while it was travelling across a bridge over a river.

The full extent of the storm's destruction is not yet known.
