Thousands of homes and other residential properties have been cut off the power supplies in Ireland, as the Storm "Gertrude" swept the island on January 29. The northwest and western part of the country suffered the strongest strike, and wind speeds reaching 130 km/h (80.8 mph) have been measured in County Donegal.

Winds of hurricane force have also been reported in western Norway. Several people have been injured and thousands of homes have been left without power.
