Violent storms wreak havoc across parts of western Europe
Intense storms wreaked havoc across parts of Europe over the last couple of days. A cargo vessel got stranded in the Bay of Biscay and rescue teams have only been able to reach it on January 29. 22 crew members were successfully evacuated a few days earlier.

Thousands of homes and other residential properties have been cut off the power supplies in Ireland, as the Storm "Gertrude" swept the island on January 29. The northwest and western part of the country suffered the strongest strike, and wind speeds reaching 130 km/h (80.8 mph) have been measured in County Donegal.
Winds of hurricane force have also been reported in western Norway. Several people have been injured and thousands of homes have been left without power.
