Damaging tornadoes are reported in Italy almost every year.

For instance, a tornado that formed near the province of Venice on July 8, 2015, was about half a kilometer (0.31 miles) wide. It caused serious damage to houses during its 10 minutes on the ground and claimed the life of 1 person. 30 people were injured and hundreds displaced.

On August 19, 2014, five tornadoes swept through the port town of Genoa, prompting flights to be diverted and causing millions of Euros worth of damage.
