Large eruption of Sinabung sends ash plume 12 km into the air
A large vulcanian explosion occurred at Indonesian Sinabung volcano on December 10, 2013 at 04:30 UTC. Darwin VAAC reported ash plume rose to an altitude of 12 km (38 000 ft) and drifted 50 nautical miles to the NW.
Although it had a relatively calm period in last few days, today's eruption was preceded by a smaller one around midnight. Ash plume from that eruption rose to estimated 5.5 km (18 000 ft).
The volcano is on red alert for last 2 weeks and more than 17 000 people remain evacuated, Volcano Discovery reports.
