Large dust storm clouds Phoenix, Arizona
A large dust storm swept the US Arizona's capital of Phoenix on October 16, 2015, media reports. The cloud system was hovering about 1 500 m (4 921 feet) above the ground, packing winds of 100 km/h (62 mph) and was followed by a strong thunderstorm.

The city was wrapped in a thick cloud of sand and dust which reduced the visibility to only 30 m (98.4 feet) while the accompanying lightning struck two buildings in downtown Phoenix.
Over 4 500 people have been cut off the electricity supplies as the system passed through the city and the strong winds were reported to have bent the goal posts on the football field in Temple.

The news company's helicopter pilot Jerry Ferguson, who flew the helicopter during the storm said this was the densest storm to affect the area during the summer: "The storm is quite a large dust storm, both in height and breadth."
