Record breaking snowfall blanketed the city of Omsk in Siberia, causing traffic jams across the affected areas, media reported on October 22, 2015.

Although at a first glance the event might appear hardly relevant, after all the words Siberia and snow are quite close, meteorologists say this snowfall is the most significant in the last decade.

40 cm (15.7 inches) of snow fell in only one night, and residents awoke to find the streets and vehicles almost disappear under the white blanket on the morning of October 22 (local time).

A blizzard warning has been issued by the National Weather Center, stating the harsh snow worsened by the strong wind will continue to fall until October 23.
