Rare tornado touch-down causes damage in Denair, California

A rare tornado touch-down was observed near Zeering Road in Denair, Stanislaus County, California on the afternoon (local time) of November 15, 2015.

The tornado damaged houses and trees, as well as a roof of the nearby church, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department. No injuries or victims have been reported, however 1 700 people have been cut off the electricity supplies at the time.

Local residents have confirmed it has been at least several years since they can remember a tornado like event in the area. "This is absolutely rare for Stanislaus County", Sergeant Anthony Bejaran said.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has confirmed the observed event to be a tornado touch down, although its strength still needs to be estimated.
