A spell of rain and snow in Greece
Heavy rainfall and a strong snowstorm hit northern Greece on the weekend of January 16, 2016. Abundant precipitation caused the Pineios river to overflow. A bridge in Diava, Kalambaka collapsed due to flooding and one person died in a weather-related incident, local media reported.

Locals have witnessed a car falling into Kroussovitis stream in Sidirokastro, Serres, causing a man to drown. The police blocked the area near the overflowing Pineios river and all traffic was brought to a halt.

Numerous villages in northwestern Greece, including Konitsa, Zagori, Tzoumerka and Metsovo were cut off due to an intense snowstorm that swept the area on the night of January 16 to 17 (local time). Special vehicles have been sent to clear the roads in the affected region.

The areas of Arta and Filiata have also flooded, and several rockslides blocked the roads across the region.
Further rainfall and snowstorms have been forecast during January 18 with some improvement expected later in the day.
